MATERNAL AND CHILD CARE PROGRAM 2015

MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTHCARE PROGRAM

All the metaphors and similes would sound of no worth, all the colors of a rainbow won’t shine, all the stars won’t twinkle and all the gold won’t glitter if our mothers weren’t here with us.  This bond is heavenly. She is oxygen for life, she is the smile on face, she is the courage, she is the support and she surely is a wonderful woman we call “Our Ammi”.
In Pakistan, the statistics of maternal and infant mortality are very agonizing and tormenting because of different reasons that include lack of education to lack of resources to lack of courage to find a solution. Being a responsible human being, we should not hesitate going an extra mile to save OUR mothers, our children. Yes, we have to own them!
In accordance with the objective of disseminating awareness, particularly in mothers, IFMSA organized under the careful and very capable supervision of Society President Arfa Ahmad and Director SCORA  Isma Iftikhar, The MATERNAL AND CHILD  HEALTH CARE PROGRAM on 17th March 2015. Kemcolians as well as students from other eminent colleges like FJ and CMH enthusiastically participated in this event and helped us in our first step towards improving status of health in Pakistan.
The event started off with an introduction by the society President followed by a briefing session by Imama Ahmad and Izza Bazigh from final year and third year respectively. They gave an excellent presentation highlighting the basic theme of this event as well as

how to communicate with patients at hospitals and convey information about basic health of a mother and a child to them. Participants then flocked to the Patiala Ground for a group photograph and headed to their respective wards in Mayo, Lady Willington and Lady Aitchison Hospitals in groups headed by SCORA officers. Young doctors got in touch with the patients with a great zeal of serving them and explained them in detail the following points:
·         Importance of Breastfeeding
·         Importance of Vaccination for T.B, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough & Hepatitis B.
·         Personal hygiene of mother including clean clothes, pure water and dental hygiene.
·         Self Examination of breast in females for any lumps.
·         Importance of family planning.
·         Common health problems in Children
·         Making of ORS (NAMCOL) at home
The impeccably organized event was concluded by distributing certificates among the participants and organizers as they enjoyed their time reflecting upon the very event they helped to make a roaring triumph. This one day project was largely down to meticulous planning and the untiring efforts of all the members from the IFMSA- KEMU LC team particularly SCOPH, SCOME and SCORA.

An Event Report by Yusra Minahil and Nimra Ramzan.
